Background: Abhinav is a groom who loves well-crafted, stylish outfits but values comfort and staying true to himself. Nikita is a bride who dreams of looks that combine high-fashion flair with meaningful, emotional details.
Event: A grand, multi-day royal wedding hosted at the legendary Umaid Bhawan Palace, Jodhpur. The celebration spanned seven distinct functions: Haldi Lunch, Welcome Dinner, Carnival, Sangeet, Wedding, After-Party, and Reception.
The Challenge
The main challenge for Styl Inc. was managing the varied wardrobe needed. Styling a wedding with seven different functions required careful planning to balance colors, designer styles, and cultural elements.
- Styling Needs: While the bride typically takes center stage, the mandate here was to ensure the groom, Abhinav, was styled with equal complexity across all seven looks. For Nikita, the challenge was to create two high-impact, show-stopping looks for the After-Party and the Reception that complemented Abhinav’s choices.
- The Groom’s Brief: Abhinav’s philosophy was simple: “I want to look good, and I want to wear what looks good on me.” He sought a stylist who could filter the vast world of Indian couture into a selection that felt personal rather than just “trendy.”
- The Narrative Requirement: For the After-Party, the couple wanted to break the mold. They didn’t want another traditional silhouette; they wanted a “wearable memory” that captured their unique journey.
- Location Constraints: Styling for Umaid Bhawan requires a specific sense of scale. The outfits needed to be grand enough not to get “lost” in the massive sandstone architecture of one of the world’s largest private residences.
The Solution:
Styl Inc. planned this project like a story. Each function had its own distinct mood, starting with the fun and lively Carnival, moving to the bold and modern Sangeet, and culminating in the royal and traditional Wedding.
1. The Haldi Lunch
Against the yellow sandstone of the palace, we needed a color that would pop. We selected an Anita Dongre deep blue kurta, uplifted with a pastel floral embroidered jacket. This look was the perfect mix of traditional craftsmanship and breezy day-event elegance, ensuring Abhinav looked polished yet relaxed.
2. The Welcome Dinner
To set the tone for the evening festivities, we chose a crimson red velvet tuxedo by Shantanu & Nikhil. The jacket featured intricate embroidery that whispered “royalty” without the weight of a sherwani. Paired with a drape-pleated shirt and classic black trousers, it achieved a perfect balance of contemporary edge and timeless luxury.
3. The Carnival
For the Carnival, the focus was on fun and movement. We styled Abhinav in a custom hand-embellished Abhishek Sharma blazer and tailored pants. This was a “matchy” outfit with Nikita, featuring identical colors and embroidery. It was the ideal choice for their grand carriage entry, creating a cohesive visual impact for the photographers and guests.
4. The Sangeet
Abhinav’s Sangeet look was a true reflection of his persona: bold, sleek, and unapologetically modern. We styled him in a Gaurav Gupta ensemble: a charcoal sherwani featuring an intricately embellished eagle. The structural precision of Gaurav Gupta’s design struck the perfect balance between grand-palace scale and contemporary flair.
5. The Wedding
This was the “dream wedding look.” We opted for a blush pink embroidered sherwani by Manish Malhotra. To offset the soft pastel tones, we accessorized with deep green jewels, lending a regal undertone to the ensemble.
The outfit was designed for drama. As Abhinav made his entry, coming down the large palace stairs through the massive palace gates, he looked every bit the Indian prince. The soft pink against the golden hour light of Jodhpur created an ethereal, royal atmosphere.
6. The After-Party
This was the most personal project of the wedding. We collaborated with designer Shahin Mannan to create customized jackets for both. Every stitch told a story. The jackets were embroidered with love letters they had written to each other, their proposal time, their wedding hashtag #AbhiNikkiKiDuniya, inside jokes, and significant dates. We even mapped out their love journey from one Indian city to another through motifs. Nikita wore a chic blazer dress while Abhinav wore a matching jacket. These weren’t just clothes; they were significant of their relationship, playful, chic, and sentimental.
7. The Reception
In a reversal of the usual process, Abhinav fell in love with a Manish Malhotra charcoal black sherwani with gold detailing “in one go.” He was so certain of this look that he requested Nikita’s outfit be styled to complement him. We styled Nikita in a Tarun Tahiliani champagne gold lehenga with floor-sweeping feathered sleeves. The gold and black combination merged old-world charm with modern drama, creating a powerful, sophisticated visual for their final appearance.
