Doing Your Own Party Makeup? Here are Some Tips

Post your wedding there’d be many events wherein you might have to get fully decked up. It’s important thus that your party makeup looks flawless and not cakey at all. However, you cannot possibly hire a makeup artist for even the smallest of events. For bigger events, of course hiring someone makes a lot of sense. However, the other way round means spending a whole lot of bucks. The best solution in that case is to learn how to apply good makeup yourself. This step-by-step guide will equip you well enough to be able to experiment on your own.

Here’s how you can do your own party makeup.

Getting The Right Products

The first and foremost step in doing good party makeup is to get the right products. If you get products that don’t suit you in terms of texture, shade and properties then you’re probably going to mess it up. More importantly you need to know your skin type. Without knowing whether you are a dry/combination/oily skin type, you’re sure to get the wrong products. If you are a dry skin type and you get a matte or drying foundation, chances are you wouldn’t easily be able to blend the foundation. Apart from that it’s also important to figure out your skin shade and undertone or else you might risk the foundation turning ashy. These factors even determine the kind of blush, highlighter as well as the contour that you should opt for.

Moreover, it’s also important you invest smartly in your eyeshadow palettes. Get one or two versatile palettes instead of getting 10 with lesser colours. Trust us, they’d last you a long time and help you create amazing looks.

Prep The Skin for Party Makeup

Once you’ve got the right products and you are ready to start doing your makeup, prepping the skin determines everything. The party makeup base is super important to get right. Again, here you ought to know your skin type to be able to judge the kind of care your skin needs. Cleansing, toning and moisturising right, is key to getting on a flawless, easily blendable makeup. If you have dry skin then make sure you use more moisturising, hydrating and/or thick products. However, if you have oily skin then go for more light, gel or water based products to avoid getting the skin even more greasy. A super greasy skin can actually get rid of the makeup.

Pro tip: Avoid lathering your skin with a lot of face oil, for oil helps remove the makeup. A small drop of it would actually work really well. This way you ensure that you create a party makeup look that doesn’t move.

Prime & Correct

Once the moisturiser has been evenly spread across the face, it’s time to correct and prime the face. It is one of the party makeup essentials. These steps ensure that the makeup glides on your face and you are not lathering huge amounts of product to hide the flaws. Colour correction will help you hide dark circles, acne, pigmentation, acne scars and more without having to use too much foundation or compact. An orange colour corrector helps hide dark circles and pigmentation. Depending on how dark these areas are as compared to the rest of the face, you have to decide on how much of the product to use. Avoid using too much product for you will be stuck trying to hide the orange colour with the foundation and concealer, leading the makeup to get cakey. Other than that, use a green corrector to hide the redness of your acne.

Make sure, before correction you also prime your face with a good primer. Again avoid using a whole lot, for a little bit only will last you a really long time.

Get The Base Right

Once the skin is prepped, there’s really not a lot to worry about the foundation and concealer. The right base will anyway help the makeup glide on easier. Of course, with a little hit and trial you ought to figure out how much coverage is good for you. Make sure, while blending, the foundation is spread evenly across the face. A lot of time it so happens that the coverage is spread unevenly across the face which tends to make the makeup look bad. While concealing, also ensure that you manage to hide the orange or green of the corrector underneath.

Contouring Right for Good Party Makeup

The trickiest part of doing makeup is contouring for sure. Make sure you watch endless tutorials before you actually go ahead and do it. Otherwise it can go majorly wrong. You have to understand your face shape and accordingly understand the correct way to do it. It’s also imperative that you contour your jaw for the foundation can cover the jawline hence, contouring will help you make it a bit more prominent. You also ought to know whether you need liquid or powder contouring. Liquid contouring is needed mostly when you want a sharper contour or want to make your face appear narrower, otherwise powder contour sure is the best way to go about it.

Good Brows

Brows can make and break the whole look for you. If you mess these up chances are you are going to end up looking funny. Hence, again look up endless tutorials to avoid such a situation. Another important thing is to get the right shade of brow product. Don’t go for a black brow product that can make your brows look really bushy. Go for more ebony, grey or brown shades to give your brows a more natural look. To ensure you draw your brows right, it’s important they are threaded right too! So do take special care of them. And yes, your brows are important even if you are doing a relatively simple party makeup look too.

Balance it Out

Balance is the key to any good party makeup. Even when it comes to fashion and styling, balance is the key. When it comes to makeup the main elements are the eyes and lips. If you are going for some heavy makeup on the eyes then avoid deeper darker lip shades like red, maroon, plum etc. However, if you are going for light eye makeup then these colours sure are game. Yes, you can definitely go light on both eyes and the lips but heavy makeup for both of them can really mess up the look!

Matte or Dewy?

Now, we all have preferences when it comes to matte and dewy makeup. However, did you know that you again have to factor in your skin type before you decide on that. A dry skin person surely cannot go for a matte look for it will be difficult to achieve the look. That is definitely not to say that you have to always stick to one type of makeup because skin types do not always stay the same. Yes! Your skin reacts to various factors including whether, lifestyle, diet etc. So make sure you test and check your skin. This is actually one of the basic things when considering how to do party makeup.

Once you are satisfied with the makeup you’ve done, it’s very important to set it. Not only would a setting spray make the makeup stay long it’ll also help it settle into the skin and it also does the job evening out the make up. So make sure you get a good setting spray and set it just before you leave the house.
