Makeup Trends 2022 Straight From The Runway
There are many good things about the hot summers, the best being experimental runway trends. We are right in the middle of summer, meaning it is the perfect time to utilise those makeup trends 2022 from the fashion weeks. Thanks to the runway fashion show we have a long list of makeup look to start planning. From Anna Sui to evergreen Versace and YSL amongst others, the designer shows provided us with plenty of inspiration.

The beauty trends were running amock on the runway this season. It seemed like the global inspiration cathartic escapism in a post-traumatic world. There were significant transformations to be seen on the models. For instance, Kendall Jenner featured freshly dyed copper red hair or Isabeli Fontana chopped off her hair. If it was not hair transformations, bleached brows were popular at Versace and Burberry. Makeup strategies saw a burst of all kinds of colour throughout, as well as experiments with metallic tones and the classic red lips. We also saw Euphoria-inspired eye makeup that seemed to shine more than ever. Keeping all of this in mind, here are the makeup trends 2022 straight from the runway that we are keen to try.
Top 7 Makeup Trends 2022
Statement Blush
Whoever said that a visible blush meant that you were wearing too much was wrong. One of the biggest makeup trends for 2022 is the statement blush. Generally, the pop of colour is used as an accent. It is something you apply to sculpt your cheeks and brighten your complexion. But this year on the spring/summer 2022 runway, it took centre stage. Anna Sui showcased her models wearing blush not only on their cheeks but also on their temples and eyes. Similarly, models at the Carolina Herrera show had a nude, natural base with a colour-charged flush on their cheeks.

So we suggest that you do not shy away from the blush this season. However, if you are a little worried about going too hard on the blush, go for easy-to-blend powders rather than creams. Make sure you blend it all in a C-shape going up from your cheeks to your temples.
Florescent Eye Makeup Trends 2022
As has been seen on the world stage, fashion has taken a turn towards colourful maximalism. So why should the beauty trends stay behind? Makeup trends for 2022 are taking the brighter the better approach with eyeshadows. Neons have taken over the graphic eye makeup trend and you can see them everywhere. It is not just for the experimental maximalist fashion lovers out there. The simplistic graphic eyeliner trends have made sure that even minimalists can enjoy the neon eye makeup trend. On the runway, we saw Prabal Gurung and Versace pioneer the fluorescent eye makeup trends 2022.

Ultra Glossy Lips
With the return of Y2K fashion, makeup trends from the early 2000s are also making a return. One of the more prominent makeup trends of the early 2000s was the ultra glossy lips. They have an even more prized place in the world as many countries are doing away with their mask mandates. Since the masks are slipping off, lip colours are slowly making their way back in soft, moisturising formulas. Think lip stylish that looks like popsicle stains and then a glossy lip for extra hydration. Of course, this does not mean the glossy lips that a sticky and just cling to any stray hair. We mean glosses that have a slight tint and shimmer to them but without any of the gooeyness.

Embellished Eyes
Euphoria is a show that has taken the world by storm in both its seasons. Different people liked it for different things but fashion and makeup lovers watched the show for its awe-worthy and completely over-the-top makeup. The primary makeup element used by the IT characters in Euphoria was embellishments. It seems that designers have taken inspiration from the show and incorporated over-the-top versions of face embellishments into their collections. Even though Euphoria showed graphic eyes highlighted with embellishments, the runway models had natural makeup and heavy embellishments. The trendsetters for this makeup look on the runway were Simone Rocha and Etro.

The Red Lips Makeup Trends 2022
Did we say that popsicle-washed lips were the ones making their rounds in the makeup world? Well, we can not forget to mention the return of the bold lip, primarily the siren red lips. Strong red lips have been everywhere from the runways to the red carpets. On the runways, it was showcased by Saint Laurent and Michael Kors. Both the design houses took a rather French-chic approach to the red lip. They paired it with little to no eye makeup and clear, natural-looking skin. This, translated to real life, means that the red lip is no longer reserved for first dates and special events. You can sport this look for WFH meetings and running errands.

Matching Eyeshadow
A new trend that has been seen on the global runways has been that of matching eye shadows. What do we mean by that exactly? This means that your eye makeup matches exactly in colour with the outfit you are wearing. For example, if you are wearing a sapphire blue dress then your eye shadow is also a sapphire blue. If your out is a monochromatic black or white, your makeup is also monochromatic. See? It is as simple as that. This trend was prominently visible in the shows by LaQuan Smith as well as Dundas x Revolve.

Metallic Touches
Gilded Glamour was not just a theme for this year’s MET Gala. It was present in the spring/summer 2022 makeup trends all over the world. We can see multiple interpretations of it in multiple designers’ shows. Gucci showcases eyes that were blocked in metallic silver and green foil. Simone Rocha showcased models whose eye makeup included a copper foil. Dior with Peter Phillips added a little twist to the eye with a simple swish of silver on the inner corner of the eyes. These looks can be translated directly on the faces of the bolder maximalists.

However, if you are not keen on the daring blocking of eyes, we have a few suggestions for you. For the everyday person, the metallic trend can be seen as gilded, glitter almost wet-looking eyeshadows and highlighters. Use eyeshadows that have the perfect amount of pigment so that they catch light effortlessly. In a pinch, you can also use your highlighter as an eyeshadow for that shimmery glow.
