StylBride Priyanka’s Shopping Journey in India! Styl-Blog | Styl-Inc

We love tradition. It’s the basis of all the weddings in the world be it any culture.

Introducing our StylBride from New York, Priyanka, a Potterhead and a believer of Unicorns and Fairytales.

I want to look like a princess for my fairytale wedding at the Plaza, New York she said.

Well, we cant work much on the fairytale wedding but we sure can make you look like a princess we said! and thus began the journey of our shopping and styling our beautiful girls wedding wardrobe.

Priyanka’s mother Rajee approached us and wanted nothing more but to see her daughter happy with what she’d buy and supported her in every way. Nothing but the best for my little girl was her brief to us.

The wedding was to be a traditional Tamilian affair and the outfits were non-negotiable, but we did have the option for varying a little with her Sangeet and Reception look.

With her charm, charisma, and beauty, we knew it was up to us to keep the essence of Priyanka at heart & find something that will blend her personality rather than overwhelm it.

The Journey to finding the Perfect Fit.

Before coming to India, we spoke at lengths over video calls where we got to know more about her personal style & preferences. The first order of business was creating personalized mood boards to gauge her choices. Upadda and Kanjeevaram sarees for the main events was a pre-requisite, we suggested a trip to the South to buy the real deal. But the rest we were sure we’d find in Delhi.

Shopping in Delhi.

So, taking into consideration the brief, we designed an itinerary for her. Which included the locations & designers we thought we would find the best fit for her. Her list was outfits & jewellery for Sangeet, Wedding & Reception for herself and bridesmaids outfit jewellery for her girls.

Planning and plotting started a little over 8 months before the wedding. Priyanka and her mum flew to India a little over six months before the wedding in the chilly months of December. And began the search for the perfect Sangeet and Reception outfit.

Sangeet Outfit

After looking at a lot of designers on their 1st day here, Priyanka & her mother liked one of the pieces Meha picked out at Varun Bahl. It was a traditional lehenga, yet it’s was the color and vibrant embroidery that set it apart. An unconventional Teal tug at the right strings with everyone. With its hand embroidered floral design & little embellishments to give it that elegant bling, it became the perfect choice.

Reception Outfit

This is the time I really want to dazzle and shine, it has to be a dream come true, as thousands of people watch in amazement  while I have my father-daughter dance and then a dream like sequence, first dance with Vikram!

Reception outfit with Manish Malhotra

Priyanka wanted a statement piece for her Wedding Reception. Something that’ll make her stand out at the party. Elegant, easy to handle & which made her feel like a princess at her ball. So, on the 2nd day of trying on some outfits at Manish Malhotra Store, we found the best contender. A white Kashmiri embroidery lehenga with blue sequins in the midst of it. Making her sparkle at every step. We interchanged the original studded blouse to a studded corset style top, She looked like a dream at the store, and we were amazed at how a princess had to come to life when we saw the wedding photos.

After finishing with the outfit we went jewelry shopping! So, for her Sangeet outfit, she wanted a delicate head-piece, for which we ventured to Shahpur Jat. Where a new age designer Soranam made jewellery for her & her bridesmaids. And for her wedding maangtika, anklets & haathphool we went to Purab Paschim! With their beautiful designs, it was love at first sight. The final stop in Delhi was to get her bangles.

The Wedding Saree

Saree shopping in Bangalore

For the sarees, the brief was very specific. It had to be traditional & should meet their cultural specifications. An uppadda and a kanjeevaram. So, Meha flew them to Bangalore. Where they visited very old & reputed stores who’ve been making traditional sarees for decades. Having been informed beforehand of our requests, they showed Priyanka sarees of their choosing. And she picked out her favorites pretty quickly.

Jewellery was also very carefully selected at some shortlisted stores in Bangalore. Following traditions the bride wore, the traditional Kasan Mala, but we added an intricate petal gold choker with pearl to this. A waist belt was customized to become a Jadanagam or the Choti ornament. The Nethichoti was replaced by a maangtika we picked from Purab Paschim and the traditional Valayal was replaced by coordinated bangles we bought off the Lajpat Nagar stores.

In all she was a fusion of elements from north and south and that set her apart, making her a contemporary traditional bride.

The Progress

After their visit to India, Team Styl coordinated with all the designers to get updates on their orders. Keeping our client updated with the progress. We had to get the Bridesmaids’ saree & jewellery. Getting all of their’s measurements via emails & coordinating with the designer to get it ready beforehand. As Priyanka’s mom also wanted to give away some wedding favors, we found for her small potli (round pouch) bags she could put all the gifts in.

The Planning & Decor

Priyanka’s Wedding Planner, Premini Events contacted us first on Bride’s behalf. They told us what the Bride expected & asked if we could deliver her expectations. So, when we talked to Priyanka’s mom & explained how planned everything was, she was so happy to work with us. And all the while giving her daughter the best of everything. She explained to us how the planners have already arranged for everything and haven’t spared a single detail for her daughter’s wedding. From beautiful jasmine mandap for the wedding day & elegant violet floral themed Reception at The Plaza to the smallest detail of the cake.
