Trends for Summer Prints 2022
Last Updated on May 21, 2022 by Sagarika Kapoor
Word around the fashion world is that a lot of fashion comes down to reinventing the wheel. People suggest that it is hard to come up with something truly new and previously unexplored. This is true. Fashion is cyclical and what goes around comes around. We can quite clearly see this happening right in front of our eyes. With the resurgence of Y2K and so many trends being inspired from the 80s and 90s, fashion has shown that it is everlasting. So this is something that we can predict. What you cannot predict however is how designers will interpret something to make it more modern. Today, we talk about the summer prints 2022.ย
The Spring/Summer trends for prints in 2022 have the same reinvention of inspiration that we see every year. But, as with most trends in 2022, these are prints that have been seen before. In fact, the summer prints of 2022 are probably still there in the backs of your wardrobes waiting to be rediscovered. But of course, when showcased on the runway, their styling makes them feel fresh as the morning.ย
As we move towards summer, we can safely say that florals are a big hit. No summer prints collection is successful without prints after all. Even though Miranda Priestly says florals are not groundbreaking, we disagree a little. At least for this season. The dilemma however is whether stripes can even be considered a trend. We certainly think so with the boldness that they have taken this year. If you mix in logo mania and the clearly trending tie dye, you’ve got yourself some summer prints 2022 trends! One thing we can say for sure is that designers are playing around with quirky prints again. So we should take inspiration from them and have fun too.ย
Summer Prints 2022 to Wear
Logo Mania
Logos as prints have come back with a vengeance this year. Designers took the more is more approach to logo prints and making a statement. With a runway full of logos and stores with more of the same, this is an inescapable trend. You can see it quite clearly in Chanel’s show with the cute minidresses in the print. Other designers showcasing this trend are Loewe and Fendi. It is not just apparel that is full of logo mania. Brand stamps are visible on bags, footwear and other accessories as well. In fact, they are available on practically every printable surface ever! This is not the season to hide where your outfit is from. Take inspiration from influencers on how to style this oft-seen tacky trend, because why not?
Itโs Stripes Season
Do you think that stripes are ever not on the runway? We see them every year and they are somehow reinvented every season! Kudos to the designers. Well, this year the stripes have taken on a personality of their own. They are bigger and bolder than ever. Inspired by the uniforms of Rugby players, the stripes are a combination of colours. They can be worn with solids or played around with other prints or textures. Colour stories are important to build here so that you do not end up looking like a mess. This trend was boldly seen on Brandon Maxwellโs show. Other designers that have explored the rugby stripes include JW Anderson and Miu Miu. You will see this trend in dresses, shirts, scarves and hats.ย
Summer Prints 2022: Groundbreaking Florals
Floral prints are the wisest investment you can make for a spring/summer wardrobe. They never really go out of style so you can rest assured that you will always have something to wear. In Summer prints 2022, florals have taken a life of their own. They are bigger and bolder than ever. However, they do have a rather flat quality to them. The blooms are more minimalist than what we have seen in a while. This is in stark contrast with almost every other print this season. The florals in summer prints 2022 have a shadow like quality to them. They are silhouettes on block colours without any obvious intricacy and detail. These florals are reminiscent of the kind of flowers you see in childrenโs colouring books. They are super-sized and colourful without being as maximal as before.
Micro Checks
Another print that also seems to be around, no matter the season or year is checks. Checks are one of those classic things that never go out of fashion. But you might be asking, if they are a classic, how can they be a trend? Well, like most prints, it is the interpretation of checks each year that makes them trendy. Some years it is extra large ones and some years it is microscopic. This summer, micro checks are trending. Any plaid or check that is extremely tiny is acceptable this summer as a print trend. You can style them with anything and everything. One of our favourites is donning a print on the print outfit. The checks were seen in the collections of Nanushka, Ganni and Lisa Marie Fernandez. As with every trend, when confused, take inspiration from runways and influencers.ย
Summer Prints 2022: Groovy Ripples
Ripples in a groovy pattern are a popular print trend for summer prints 2022. These abstract prints seem to have taken inspiration from tie and dye but are organized. Their interpretations seem to vary from looking like illusions to looking like marble prints. They are having a moment of their own in the print world of fashion. From bright colours to colour blocking, this print seems to have it all. You can find it in multiple fabrics and textures with a variety of colour stories. So do not be afraid to try this one.ย
