9 Spring/Summer 2022 Trends to Know

Share this:

Spring is around the corner, bringing with it a plethora of blooms and fresh fashion trends. The runway for Spring/Summer 2022 was full of optimism. While the trends for 2021 showcased desperation for dressing up to do the most low-key tasks, 2022 adds practicality with fun back to dressing. There is a sense of appropriate dressing according to the time and occasion that prevails in the spring/summer 2022 trends. The of course is indicative of the different occasions we have to dress for. No more going out for the groceries. We have meetings, parties to attend, brunches to go to and museums to enjoy. The runway imbibed that completely.

The fashion that was showcased had a strong indication of the plurality of our world where we exist on two ends of the same axis. While you see the ultra-sexy, cut here and slashed their clothing, there also exists its antithesis. A lot of chic, minimalist and understated dressing was visible. It completely vibes with a modern shopper who dresses extra-sassy one day but decides to channel Rosie Huntington-Whitley the other. This is because fashion right now has the “anything goes” zeitgeist, where the phenomenon of things being “in” or “out” does not exist. This means that you can be as wild as you want or as understated as you prefer.

With an almost return to the traditional runway shows, there have been quite a few “fashion moments” happening to celebrate the arrival of a new collection. It has been invigorating to see the different inspirations that designers have taken this year. One of the most prominent inspirations visible was Tik-Tok and Gen Z fashion. We see a revival of the 90s, noughties and 2010s based on thrift shopping. But of course, there is a ton more! So much more that we cannot narrow the trends down to one or two. So we have listed the top 9 Spring/Summer 2022 fashions trends that you need to know.

Spring/Summer 2022 Trends

Micro-Mini Skirts

If you thought that hemlines cannot get higher, think again. Miuccia Prada with a groundbreaking Miu Miu show brought back micro-mini skirts in a jiffy. The skirts in her collection were so delectable that you feel compelled to take a pair of shears to your skirts. OF course, with the nineties inspiration, the skirts are worn extremely low on the hips and are a swatch of fabric that barely cover your underpants. We saw more of these skirts from Dolce & Gabbana, Versace, Bottega Veneta, Chanel and even Armani.

Spring/Summer 2022 Trends: Biker Jackets

Put on your helmets people. The biker jacket has returned. And with what a vengeance! For Spring/Summer 2022 trends, we saw motorcycle jackets like never before. They were leather, slim fit and lapel free with a distressed finish by Acne Studios and Supriya Lele. Balenciaga and Prada took the oversized route while McQueen got experimental with leather and denim, feminine puff shoulders and studs.

Swimming in Colour

This is possibly the biggest Spring/Summer 2022 fashion trend. Colour took centre stage for the season. We saw the designers taking a positive and adventurous approach to hues. Valentino showcased a luxurious chocolate brown raspberry and cerulean blue. Halpern made us drool with tangerine while Bottega featured Kermit green styles.

Minimalist Luxury

On the other end of the axis exist the far quieter minimalist luxury designs. The rise in terms of interesting, ultra-luxe but wearable wardrobe staples. We are not talking about the boring basic tees though. We are talking about the trench coat with a unique label, the co-cord with quirky bottoms or the Avant-garde structured basic top.

Platform Shoes

If you have been a wearer of heels for a while, you know that platforms are the key to less pain. Lucky for all feet out there, platforms are present on every kind of shoe this season. They are THE thing to look out for. Designers have taken many variations of the platform as a Spring/Summer 2022 fashion trend. They have created a platform shoe of every elevation and for every possible task: from work to partying.

Return of Y2K

As we mentioned above, Y2K cannot be escaped in 2022. Some designers have paid a rather tasteful homage to the decade of fashion while others have honed down on the entire look. Whatever the result, the inspiration and the result is the same. There is a return of the butterfly tops, very low rise trousers, ultra mini skirts and skimpy tops. This nostalgic trend had designers expose the midriff and use butterflies everywhere.

Spring/Summer 2022 Trends: Welcome Volume

For silhouette, Spring/Summer 2022 trends primarily showcase volume. The puffball this season looks delectable. The outline has been copied from the 80s but has been completely modernised for 2022. Loewe had voluminous hemlines on denim skirts, while Simone Rocha featured bouncy tulle dresses.

Seduction, Stripped Down

The Spring/Summer 2022 runway saw bold featuring of the new sexy. The pallbearers of this trend were Supriya Lele, Ludovic de Saint Sernin and Coperni. and Nensi Dojaka. They showcased fashion’s love affair with flesh with abandon. The key details noted were sheer short and sparkly. Plunging necklines and body-hugging silhouettes were prominent and so were lingerie and swimsuit inspired garments like the bikini bralette, lace, bra tops and nightgown like dresses. Even Prada indulged in the new sexy by naming their collection “Seduction, Stripped Down”. Freeing the nipple was the political statement on display. All you need to do to pull this off is take a deep breath and channel your inner seductress.

21st Century Bohemia

Bohemia took a turn for 2022 on the runway. There existed an overarching mood of luxury since the bohemian looks featured would fit any exotic locale. The trend centred around craftsmanship, rich colours, exotic printed fabrics with rich textures, and finally extravagant detailing. These things ensured that bohemia would be difficult to produce by high-street fashion but would still be valuable. We will see a plethora of fringe, tie-dye, crochet, and patchwork in 21st-century style at more affordable rates.
