Now that you know the major exercise groups to include in your beginner exercise plan, let’s see how to start exercising as a beginner. Following are our top, medically approved suggestions.

Know Your Fitness Level

Before starting anything new, you must know your baseline. This means understanding what your current fitness level is. You just need to record a few things for this. First, see what your pulse rate is immediately before and after walking 1.5 km and how long it took you to walk that distance. Next, see how many standard or modified push-ups you can do. Finally, check how far you can bend towards your toes when seated with your legs stretched out. These are your basic stats against which we can measure your progress.

Styl Tip: Knowing the “Why” for your workout will help you stay motivated to continue your fitness journey.

Schedule Your Workout

A must to start any habit is scheduling it in your calendar. This will help keep you accountable. Additionally, it will make you feel like you achieved something and maintain your motivation. But in saying this, remember to keep yourself in mind. As a beginner, working out three to five days a week is ideal. So make your calendar accordingly.

Styl Tip: Always keep a backup plan for any workouts that might miss. This means, if you miss a scheduled 30-minute workout, go for a 30-minute walk whenever possible. Additionally, you can also do 30 minutes of yoga or stretching to keep a sense of movement present.

How To Start Working Out As a Beginner: Start Slow

A mistake often made by beginners is going too hard too quickly. This means doing the maximum possible in a given time frame. But let us tell you, this is a recipe for disaster. Not only does it create more room for burnout, but it can also injure you. So, remember your fitness level and take things slow. Start with the most basic exercises and keep adding to them every four to six weeks. Additionally, remember that rest days are sometimes more impactful to your fitness as compared to workout days.

Styl Tip: When starting to work out as a beginner, try just walking for a couple of weeks. This will help introduce movement into your lifestyle in a way that is not harmful. Slowly increase the duration of your walks and then incorporate more difficult exercises.

Design A Beginner Workout Plan

As we just mentioned, taking things slow and scheduling your workout is necessary. So, keep this in mind when creating a workout plan for yourself. When wondering about how to start working out as a beginner, plan a versatile regime that includes a little bit of everything. Keep one day for aerobics and calisthenics, one for balance and flexibility and one for strength. On top of this, you can include whatever you feel like including. It can be an extra day of cardio, walking, yoga or a new trendy workout you wish to try. So, keep versatility to ward off boredom and have a balanced routine.

Prioritize Sleep

The ultimate goal of a healthy mind and a healthy body starts with prioritizing sleep. We know it is tempting to finish that series in the middle of the night and function on coffee the next day. But sleep deprivation sets back all your fitness goals. So, getting at least eight hours of sleep each night is a must. This will help in keeping you energized and assist in healing your muscles.
