Monsoon Essentials To Save You This Rainy Season

Share this:

Monsoon has rapidly come and knocked on our doors. The days of overwhelming humidity and rain are here to challenge you. We all know that monsoon is not really as calming or as beautiful as it appears in movies. No romantic dances in the rain for us in real life. Without your monsoon essentials, it gets even tougher to go out or take care of your skin and hair. The primary goal during monsoons is of course comfort! We all want our feet to be dry, our hair to be silky and our skin to be glowing. But not all is bad clearly. In India, rainy days offer us a much-needed respite from the rising temperatures. Global warming is still a thing child. But puddles and mud are still a deal breaker for some. Well, worry not my friends. We have curated our list of the many monsoon essentials you need to survive this season. These essentials are for your skin, hair and fashion carried forward by some general life advice. So let’s get reading!

Monsoon Essentials For Your Skin

Any skincare junkie worth their crown knows that as seasons change, so do the requirements of your skin. Hence, your skincare routines change too. Monsoon brings with it a spike in the humidity along with an overall sticky feeling. When this is combined with the end of summer heat, your skin starts getting excessively shiny, oily and acne prone. So, your skin needs a little extra TLC every monsoon to keep its temperament in check. Here we have some skincare monsoon essentials to beat the grease this year.

Sunscreen

It feels rather repetitive for every skincare guru to keep saying the same mantra. But what can we say? Sunscreen is an unmissable essential for your skin for every season. You might be assuming that with cloudy days, your skin may be safe from the harmful rays of the sun. But alas, we have to break your bubble. The damaging UVA rays are present all year round, including the cloudy days. These rays can accelerate skin damage and increase spots and pigmentation. You can change sunscreens according to the seasons as well. For monsoon, if your sunscreen feels heavy and greasy, opt for a gel-based formula. For those of you with oily skin, skip the moisturizer and go straight to your SPF. Do not over-moisturize your skin with heavy moisturizers as they can clog your pores and your face feel greasy.

Salicylic Acid

Deep cleaning your skin is exceptionally important, especially during the rainy season. Excessive sebum production can easily trigger an acne breakout if you do not cleanse your skin properly. Salicylic acid is a heavy lifter when it comes to taking care of your skin. It balances pH levels, exfoliates, and decongests the pores by ridding them of dead cells and deep cleaning. We suggest you use a skin cleanser with salicylic acid in it to maintain skin health. Wash your face with this twice a day and then proceed to the rest of your skincare routine.

Face Masks

Every season there are different requirements for your skin. They can often be taken care of with the god old CTM routine. However, sometimes extras like face masks are needed. During monsoon, we suggest you use the classic Multani mitti face masks to help clean your skin and control sebum production. You can also adapt our summer face masks to the monsoon by swapping a couple of ingredients.

Hair Care During The Rainy Season

Hair care during monsoons takes a rather extreme form. The tendency to be dry and frizzy means you have to be more careful than ever. Knowing this, let us see what the monsoon haircare essentials are.

Hair Oil

An absolute necessity during monsoons, hair oils are the only saving grace you will have. They can reduce the level of dryness and frizziness of your hair with consistent use. They also strengthen your hair and fight away fungal infections. The best options for hair oils are olive oil and coconut oil. Oils from brands like Kama Ayurveda also do wonders for your scalp health.

Frizz Control Serum

A frizz control hair serum or hair spray only comes in handy during the humidity to tame your mane. You can also get a leave-in oil and spray-on mists to get silky hair. Additionally, mousses and gels that seal the cuticles on your hair from root to tip are a great investment. They seal the pores on your hair that make it frizzy, thus maintaining the silkiness of your hair.

Gumboots and PVC

The most at-risk element in your wardrobe during monsoons is your footwear. They come in contact the most with the mud, puddles and water. During monsoons, gumboots and PVC footwear are a saving grace. These shoes repel water like oil and ensure that your feet stay dry and cosy. The fashion-forward footwears come in many styles and colours so you can find your perfect match.

Waterproof Bags

When it rains, it pours. But that does not mean that your personal items need to be flooded. Having a waterproof bag to keep your loved objects safe is in itself a monsoon essential. You can commute assured that your electronics, money and other things are safe from water damage.

Monsoon Must-Haves For Makeup

Water-proof Makeup

This goes without saying that waterproof makeup is your saving grace when it comes to saving face. Even though there are not a lot of water-proof options, you can work around the slipperiness. Water-proof mascara, eyeliner and lipstick are your go-to. To keep the rest of your face intact, use BB creams or lightweight foundations as a base. Additionally, avoid cream blushes and highlighters. Powers are your best friend as they slip less on your face in the humidity. Always use a mattifying primer to maintain the longevity of your makeup and a mattifying setting spray as well.
