Here’s How to Recognise Your Eye Shape and Opt for the Perfect Eye Makeup Accordingly

We all love some good eye makeup, don’t we? However, it’s not something that is easy to achieve. To be able to do good and flattering-looking eye makeup you need to be clear with the basics. The important one is knowing your eye shape. If you know your eye shape and know what kind of makeup would work for it, half the work is done there itself. If you know what would suit your eye shape, you are more likely to create some stunning looks. It’s very easy to judge your eye shape, all you need to know is how to do so. Now another thing to remember is that you don’t just have one parameter to judge with eye shapes, you could have a combination of two or more. So ensure you look at all the parameters. Before we go ahead it is also important to know the thumb rule. Now universally the almond is considered as the ideal eye shape. That is not to say that a particular eye shape is better than the other but just that it is considered ideal. So that is the standard we’re trying to achieve with a flatteringeye makeup. Hence, it’s mostly about doing makeup in a way that gives an illusion of your eye shape being almond.
Here’s how to judge your eye shape to do the correct eye makeup.
Almond Eyes
As the name suggests almond eyes are shaped like an almond only. So the things you need to check for are corners and the centre of the eye to be able to decipher it. The corners would be pointed while the widest area of the eye would be the centre much like an almond. These eyes are also longer in width. Being as they are the ideal eye shape you don’t really have to think too much about the kind of makeup you do for them. You could pretty much do anything and it would look good.
Eye Makeup for Round Eyes
Next up are round eyes. It may be slightly confusing to judge if one has round eyes because it wouldn’t exactly be that. With round eyes, the inner and outer corners would not be as pointed. The corners of your eye would be more rounded as the name suggest. Chances are as someone with round eyes your eyes are pretty wide. You actually ought to focus on the sclera or the white part of your eyes to be able to see the roundness. It sure will get much more evident that way. With round eyes, a nice cat or winger liner can give a nice elongated look to your eyes. Try to utilise darker colours on the outer corner of the eyes to blue out that roundness. You guys may even try for a good smokey eye makeup look.ย
Hooded Eyes
It would be safe to say that, as Indians, the majority of us know about this particular eye shape. A large number of Indian tend to have hooded eyes. More than the shape of your eyes, this particular type is more focused on the lid area. So you are something whose lid is mostly not visible due to the skin that covers it, you most likely have hooded eyes. When it comes to hooded eyes you cannot opt for any and every kind of makeup. Firstly a winged liner may not be for all those with hooded eyes. You could maybe opt for a smudged or cat liner. A lot of times your eye makeup may not be visible so make sure you blend up nicely in a gradation close to your brow bone to give and illusion of a higher crease. This way you can make the eye makeup visible too.
Monolid
With monolid eyes, there usually isn’t a very prominent crease and as in hooded eyes, there isn’t actually that extra line within the lid. No hood as such is created. With mono-lid eyes, playing with simpler lighter eye makeup would be ideal. Hence, we could recommend majorly opting for some simple eye makeup. You could definitely opt for the beautiful winged liners to define their shape further. Ensure you apply a good amount of mascara and let the eyelashes become a tad bit more prominent. Also, avoid any dark shades on the lower lash line.
Eye Makeup for Close-Set Eyes
Next up is close-set eyes. An easy way to determine close-set eyes is to measure one of your eyes and see if the difference between the two inner corners is lesser or almost the same as the size of the eyes. When it comes to close-set eyes, it’s better to use lighter shades towards the inner corners and darker shades on the outer. You may as well use lighter shades on the outer corner.
Wide Set Eyes
If you can easily understand the idea of close-set eyes then it’s equally easy to judge wide-set eyes. Using the same method as that of close-set eyes, you can judge wide-set eyes if the difference between the two eyes is more than the size of one eye. When it comes to makeup for wide-set eyes you could actually opt for even darker shades on the inner corner which will create an illusion of a lesser space between the two eyes. Hence, a nice halo smokey would definitely work for you. This one’s also a good option when it comes to bridal eye makeup. Make sure you know how to do it and blend it well. Avoid highlighting the inner corner of the eyes for that would make them look farther apart.
Deep Set Eyes
Next up are deep-set eyes. It’s rather easy to decipher this particular eye shape. If you have a very prominent brow bone which means that protrudes and looks much further than the eye then you have deep-set eyes. When it comes to lid space it could be more than that of hooded eyes. Avoid using darker shades with deep-set eyes, or they’d seem to be even further in, use light highlighting shades instead. Also, avoid highlighting your brow one and leave it be as is.
Protruding Eyes
Opposite to deep-set eyes is protruding eyes. The brow bone is not as pronounced and the eyes seem rather conical. Chances are people with these types of eyes have a good amount of lid space. Hence the gap between the upper lash line and crease would be much more. With eye make there’s a lot you can do because the makeup would be easily visible. You can use both dark and light shades but preferably dark. Feel free to play with glitter eye makeup as well.
Upturned Eyes
With upturned eyes, the outer corner of the eyes is slightly edged towards the brows. The outer corner would be higher than the inner corner. You could do a nice cat eye with a shape like this. To balance it out, you could tightline your eyes. Feel free to create some nice bold eye looks with this eye shape.
Downturned Eyes
Contrary to upturned eyes are the downturned ones which again is pretty self-explanatory. The outer corner of the eyes angling downwards you need to focus on making the eyes look lifted. Hence a wing liner or a lower lash liner is something you can very well do.
