The first step in achieving an organized wardrobe is to get everything out. You cannot keep going through a crowded cupboard, expecting to understand what is there. You really have to dump it all out of the closet. The reason for doing this is you could asses all of the clothing pieces that you have, their need, requirement as well as their condition. Once everything is out of the cupboard, you can very easily pick and choose and decide what to keep and let go of. Firstly, get out all your summer wardrobe and once you have sorted through all that only then at a later stage get out all of the winter outfits. However, getting them out is unavoidable and will only help make the process much easier for you.

Bid Adieu to What You Don’t Need

Here comes the tricky part about the winter closet organisation. We know it’s not easy to throw away some of our older pieces that we very much love. However, if you have been asking how to organise a wardrobe, the key element is to be able to let go of stuff that doesn’t serve you anymore. Start going through each piece of clothing and create a mental checklist, if it fulfils most of the criteria then keep it otherwise let it go. You need to ask yourself about the last time you wore it. If it’s been more than 8 months then it’s time to let go of it. Next, you need to look at whether it fits you anymore or not, this is pretty basic and you’d know what to do. Lastly, go through the condition of the piece. If it’s torn from some point, has a nasty stain or just has threads coming out, then let go.

Now would be an amazing opportunity to clean your cupboard. Now that you have dumped all the clothes out of the cupboard make sure you take a dry cloth and wipe the area. You wouldn’t want the dust that has been collecting in the cupboard to get all over your winter clothes too. Hence, definitely make use of this opportunity well. If you spread any newspaper or cloth under the clothes, make sure you change those now too.

Start Segregating

Now you would still need some of your summer clothes in the cupboard. It helps in layering, hence you start segregating the clothes that stay in the main closet and those that get stored away. That is one part of the segregation process. Next, you have to segregate your winter clothes depending on their categories and how frequently you will use them. All the hoodies can make for one pile, sweaters for another, the jeans and jeggings for a third. This is one of the best wardrobe arrangement ideas, keeping the category-wise. Also, there could be some winter clothes that don’t serve you anymore. Hence, make sure you start giving those away.

Clean & Pack up (with Care)

Now that you have decided which summer clothes to keep and which to let go of, it’s time to store them correctly. Make sure you see which clothes need a wash before you store them away. If it does seem a bit stained or you haven’t gotten it washed, do that before packing up the clothes. They would be stored away for a few months and storing them dirty is not something you want to do. You could then get some packing cubes or clear pouches or cloth bags to pack up the summer clothes. Avoid plastics because you’d also want to reduce the carbon footprint. You can find a lot of great storage options in your house. Keeping them packed would help maintain the quality of your clothes. This is something you ought to do later when packing the winter clothes too.

This would help you to make more space in the closet, by utilising space to the top without creating a mess. This will very effortlessly make it look organised.

Make sure that you also take out the winter clothes and have them air-dried in the sun before you keep them in the cupboard and start using them.
