Celebrity brides tend to be trend setters wherever they are. The wedding scene is theirs to lose with access to the best designers, stylists and event organizers. Over the last few years, there have been an uncountable number of underrated celebrity brides. Ranging from TV actors to Bollywood brides and women who married into the industry, there is a plethora of inspiration. Celebrities have been a source of style inspiration for the masses for the longest time. Even in the medieval ages, the fashion trends were set by the rich and the famous, which then trickled down to the common people. This translated the most for wedding trends. 

Today, the rituals and outfits are done under the influence of what you can see on celebrities. This trendsetting can come from movies as well as the real lives of famous people. One only needs to look at the sales of pink wedding lehengas after the Anushka-Virat wedding to understand this. With the prevalence of social media, everyone now knows what anyone is wearing.

Bollywood brides have long been a source of inspiration for designers. Over the years we have seen many celebrity brides don various designer fits for their weddings. These in turn have inspired the bridal masses to adapt to a different style of wedding outfits. We all have heard about the various trendsetting Bollywood brides. But what about the ones that are not as popular as the IT celeb couples? We have some of the most fashion-forward underrated brides here for you whose style you can incorporate into your wedding. 

Trendsetting Underrated Celebrity Brides

Mouni Roy

Marrying her long-time boyfriend Suraj Nambiar in January 2022, Mouni Roy proved to be a bride for the books. The couple had two wedding ceremonies to honour the cultural heritage of the couple. The actress wore a traditional white saree with a red border and gold embroidery for the Malayali ceremony. She accessorized the outfit with classic temple jewellery and jasmine adorned hair. Her jewellery included a matha Patti, a nakshi work waist belt, jhumkas, bangles, a choker and a long Laxmi haar. Keeping up with the traditional theme, Roy kept it simple with the makeup as well. She opted for classic kohl rimmed eyes, nude lips and a natural base. Nambiar complemented his wife in a simple white kasavu lungi and beige kurta. 

Sealing the deal in a Bengali ceremony was in the cards next. Roy took her vision of the Bengali courtier Sabyasachi for her red lehenga. It featured bold floral motifs and double organza dupattas. Inscribed in a gold thread the dupattas featured the blessing “Ayushmati Bhava”. Contrasting the Bengali beauty, Nambiar wore an off-white embroidered sherwani. He accessorized it with layered pearls to finish the look

Underrated Celebrity Brides: Rhea Kapoor

Rhea Kapoor tied the knot with her boyfriend Karan Boolani in August 2021. The celebrity bride took her minimalist aesthetic to the extreme at her wedding. The ceremony took place at Anil Kapoor’s Mumbai bungalow. Bare of the traditional wedding festivities, the close-knit affair included just family and close friends.

Ditching the traditional bridal red, Rhea Kapoor chose white. She donned a white chanderi saree with gold detailing by Anamika Khanna. Rhea paired it with a half-sleeved blouse and a matching cape, striking a balance between modern and traditional. The highlight of her wedding outfit, however, was her veil. Made up of numerous pearls creating a jaal effect, the veil tied her whole look together. She further accessorized her bridal look with pearls and Kundan jewellery. Keeping up with the minimal theme, the bride opted for a simple winged eyeliner and nude lips with a natural base. The bride chose to keep her hair fuss-free as well, opting for center parted flowing tresses. 

Shibani Dandekar

Shibani Dandekar married her boyfriend of four years Farhan Akhtar in February 2022. Their wedding took place at the Akthar’s Khandala farmhouse. This was followed by a reception at his Bandra home. Keeping up with the covid restrictions, the wedding was an intimate affair with just close friends and family present. Dandekar took the indo-western vibe with her wedding dress. She opted for a custom red lace corset top and skirt by the brand Jade by MK. The fit and design of the dual set gave the illusion of a chic and sexy mermaid bridal gown. To this gown-like attire, Shibani added a red veil, giving her outfit the wow factor expected of brides. She teamed the outfit with gold heels, a pair of gold earrings and breezy wavy hair. Farhan opted for a simple black tux to compliment his wife.

For the reception, the bride and groom took the Indian ethnic wear route. They exuded elegance in cream and gold numbers that were coordinated. Shibani wore a soft pastel saree by Anamika Khanna, paired with Kundan jewellery. Farhan opted for a simple kurta with a Bandi jacket by Sabyasachi. 

Underrated Celebrity Brides: Karishma Tanna

One of the OG TV actresses around, Karishma Tanna married her beau Varun Bagera in Mumbai. Styled by Anaita Shroff Adajania, Karishma had many a look that became the talk of the town. the bride took everyone’s breath away with her simplistic yet gorgeous wedding outfits. The way she incorporated bandhani work from her home state Gujrat left everyone speechless.

The bride resembled a queen for her wedding ceremony. She wore a pastel pink lehenga with statement jewellery. The bridal jewellery included an ornate Kundan Matha Patti, a choker necklace, heavy bangles, earrings and a nath. Karishma also took a sober route with the design of her wedding lehenga. She kept things simple with a v-neck full-sleeved blouse and a sheer dupatta. The groom complemented her in an off-white sherwani and a light pink pagdi. 

Patralekha Paul

After more than a decade of dating each other, Rajkumar Rao and Patralekha Paul got married. The couple tied the knot in November 2021 surrounded by loved ones. For the wedding, the bride chose to wear a traditional red saree. The bright red tulle embroidered butti saree was designed by Sabyasachi. Patralekha chose to wear red and white shanka pola bangles as well to represent her Bengali roots. She also had alta stained palms. Additionally, Patralekha had a breath taking red dupatta. The dupatta had the words “I am submitting you my heart full of love” embroidered at the border in Bengali. The bride chose to keep her makeup simple and minimal with traditional chandan design over her eyebrows. For jewellery, she wore 22k gold and diamonds. The accessories included a matha patti, a nath, jhumkas, a necklace, a ring and gold balas.

Rajkumar Rao complimented his bride in a gold and cream look. He wore a silk kurta and churidar with an embroidered jacket. He accessorized his look with layered Japanese pearls.
