Wardrobe Management In An Effective Way

Share this:

Every now and then all of us have this urge to splurge on our wardrobe. It mostly stems out of the morning hassles we face of having ‘nothing to wear’ even after spending a bomb on our wardrobe. But why is that? There is only one reason for this: a poor wardrobe management.

The majority of people wear only 20% of their wardrobe, about 80% of the time. However, a good wardrobe management will not only save you from the stress of planning your outfit everyday but will also make ‘looking good’ be easier on the pocket. There are two ways to properly manage your closet and utilise all your clothes: planned shopping and an organised wardrobe.

Plan your purchases for wardrobe management

The key is to always invest in quality over quantity. Planning your purchases in advance will not only save you from the overwhelming feeling of having too many or too little options while shopping, it’ll also save you a lot of money. Smartly planning your purchases will help you only ‘invest’ in the right items and not spend on clothes that don’t add value to your wardrobe.

In addition to that, it’ll also save you from the spiral of fast fashion and will be a more sustainable way of achieving your true style without breaking your bank.

This is how you begin:

  • The first step would be recognising your personal style and what clothes work best for you:

Sit down, because this will take time. Blindly following trends can be easy but it won’t be satisfying if they don’t represent your true self. So it’s best to invest some time and effort to understand your style and then work towards it.

  • The next one will be carefully examining the clothes in your closet:

Once you understand your aesthetic, dig in your closet and figure out what all clothes and items don’t add anything to it.

  • Find the gaps that are left in your wardrobe and look for clothes that’ll fill them:

Now that you’ll have items that don’t belong in your wardrobe, we are certain there will also be pieces that do. Find the missing pieces in your wardrobe puzzle and look for them.

  • Compare and find the most sustainable options available for you:

Only knowing what you want is not being ‘woke’ in 2021, you need to do your bit for the environment and look for the most sustainable option available.

Lockdown Detox

There will never be a better time than now, to manage your clothes and wardrobe. Make use of the lockdown to declutter your closet and make time to manage wardrobe. Pay attention to the clothes that are never worn. Figure out the reason for it, is it the cut, fit or the colour? Whatever the reason, find your true style and only invest in them.

A clean wardrobe will help you dress better with little effort.

Steps for wardrobe management:

  • Find the clothes that no longer represent your personal style or add value to your closet.
  • Declutter your closet and make room for more practical items.
  • Charity\ re-sell the clothes that you no longer need.
  • Send the out of season clothes to the storage.

Home for everything

The trick for keeping your wardrobe managed and organised is to assign a home to everything you own. Every item, be it jeans, skirt or a bag should have a spot where it returns to at the end of everyday. Hence, invest not just in your clothes but also your closet. Opt for custom shelves and hanging spaces to properly store your belongings.

Organising can be therapeutic, when done in the right way. Ask Monica Geller, if you don’t believe us. Here are the easiest steps that we live by to keep our wardrobes organised.

  •  Behind the doors:

No matter how tempted you are by all the Pinterest worthy open wardrobes, keep your clothes inside a closed one. An open wardrobe is basically an invitation to dust on all your dearly loved clothes. Especially the ones you don’t wear everyday.

  • Vanity drawers:

Always store the smaller and dainty items in a drawer. It’ll not only prevent them from getting lost but will also increase their life. Items like your wallet, jewellery and even scarves have no place in huge storage shelves.

  • Give shelves a chance:

Shelf dividers are a game changer when it comes to organising your closet. They not only make everything more accessible and organised but also make your closet so pleasing.

  • No space goes to waste:

Use the wasted space on the walls to hang accessories like scarves and belts instead of adding another hanger for them. Adding a towel bar will be more than enough to use this space.

Create outfits from the existing closet

Creating a capsule wardrobe is the smartest way of managing clothes. A capsule wardrobe is a set of clothes that can all be mixed and matched together to create perfect outfits every time.

Once your wardrobe is decluttered and you have invested in all things that you actually needed, dressing up everyday will be fun and not a stressful task.
