As an essential element of any groom’s outfit, kalgi is an accessory that attaches to the safa and adds a royal touch. Traditionally, kalgis were a part of royal grooms’ attires and modern day outfits still pay homage to that tradition. While many grooms prefer understated and minimalistic kalgis, nowadays, many men are also experimenting with heavy and layered accessories. Be it with feathers, pearls, kundan or colored stones, kalgis are available in so many designs that each groom looks unique in his own way.

Trend Alert: If you’re someone who loves following trends and enjoys experimenting, go for a heavy, multilayered and embellished ornament. These are super trendy and will definitely help you make a fashion statement. It’s your wedding day after all, you deserve to look like royalty.

One of the most important accessories for grooms is the dupatta. It helps you put together the entire look and perks up your regular sherwani. For the longest time now, the trend has been to match the stole to the bride’s lehenga. This makes the couple look coordinated, in person as well as in pictures. These stoles come in many different designs. You can choose the one that suits you style the best – be it embroidered, printed, neutral colored or bright and OTT. Stoles and dupattas are also a great way to add color to your neutral sherwani and they can be draped in many different ways too.

Trend Alert: A lot of grooms are now making a statement by going for a shawl or a Banarasi dupatta instead of the regular ones. Banarasi dupattas add the perfect regal touch to any outfit and are definitely a class apart. Also, since it’s winter season, shawls are a great way to sport a dupatta while also keeping warm.

Traditionally worn with western outfits, pocket squares have for a while now found their way into an Indian groom’s ensemble as well. Made of high quality fabrics like silk or brocade, pocket squares are small handkerchiefs that are primarily worn for fashion. They instantly add life to an outfit and make the whole look complete. You can match your pocket square to the bride’s outfit, or the theme of the wedding or an element in your own outfit like the safa or the stole. They add a pop of color and make it look like you pay ample attention to detailing. Whether you’re dressing up for your cocktail, your mehendi or your wedding day, you can easily incorporate a pocket square in your outfit.

Another important accessory without which a groom’s outfit remains incomplete is a layered necklace. For a classic look, you can go for a single or double string of pearls. This is a simple addition, but definitely an effective way to uplift your look. For a colorful twist, grooms are also opting for multi layered, colored strings. Emeralds or rubies are a popular choice as these colors go with most wedding sherwanis.

Trend Alert: Grooms who don’t mind standing out can also sport some regal looking polki or diamond malas. These are bold, stylish and definitely eye-catching. So don’t shy away from wearing one of these trendy, statement pieces.

While bridal designers are just now incorporating belts into their designs, groom’s outfits have always had this stylish element. Waistband or kamarbandhs add just the right amount of flair to any groom’s outfit. And traditionally they were worn by the royals to help them carry the swords. These are mostly worn as a custom by sikh and Rajasthani grooms. You can find one in any fabric or color of choice and nicely bind your whole outfit together. For a style statement, you can get an embroidered kamarbandh with zari or pearls work. Get a matching stole and safa and you’re all set to go.

And finally, a Chic Pair of matching Juttis

This is definitely a no brainer. Of course a groom needs his juttis. In fact, one of the most interesting traditions of a Hindu wedding is the joota chupaayi ceremony. But instead of going for a basic pair of shoes, you can find some amazing designs that suit your style and sherwani. Most designers make matching juttis for all their sherwanis. You can pick one matching yours or you can go for other neutral colored ones. Some juttis are also embroidered and hand painted with gorgeous motifs. But make sure you don’t overdo all your accessories. If you’re making a statement with your maala or sarpech, make sure you keep other elements like your juttis muted.
